1. Yama (control mind and body):
Ethical disciplines dealing with how one interacts with the external world like human, animal,and environment. Examples include Ahimsa (non-violence), Satya (truthfulness), Asteya (non-stealing), Brahmacharya (continence), and Aparigraha (non-possessiveness)
.
2. Niyama (Observances):
Internal disciplines focusing on self-care and personal development. Examples include Shaucha (purity), Santosha (contentment), Tapas (austerity), Svaadhyaya (self-study), and eeshvarapraneedhana (surrender to a higher power).
3. Asana (Posture):
Refers to the physical postures practiced in yoga, aiming for stability and comfort.
4. Pranaayaama (Breath Control):
Techniques for regulating and expanding the breath, influencing the flow of praana (vital energy).
5. Pratyaahaara (Sense Withdrawal):
The practice of withdrawing the senses from external objects, turning attention inward.
6. Dhaarana (Concentration with stable):
Focusing the mind on a single point espesially edge of the nose
7. Dhyaana (Meditation):
Sustained concentration, allowing for deeper absorption and connection with the object of focus.
8. Samadhi (Absorption or Enlightenment):
The ultimate goal of yoga, a state of deep absorption and self-realization, where the individual transcends the limitations of the mind and experiences a sense of unity with the Self or the divine.
Other important concepts:
Saankhya Philosophy:
The Yoga Sutras are deeply rooted in Saankhya philosophy, which distinguishes between Purusha (pure consciousness) and Prakruti (nature, including the mind and senses).
Chitta:
The mind, including its various functions and modifications (vrithees imaginations ).
Vrittis:
The fluctuations or modifications of the mind, which yoga aims to control.
Nirodha: Restraint-
control of the mind's fluctuations or hyper tension

याज्ञवल्क्यं मुनिश्रेष्ठं सर्वज्ञं ज्ञाननिर्मलम् ।
सर्वशास्त्रार्थतत्त्वज्ञं सदा ध्यानपरायणम् ॥ १॥
वेदवेदाङ्गतत्त्वज्ञं योगेषु परिनिष्ठितम् ।
जितेन्द्रियं जितक्रोधं जिताहारं जितामयम् ॥ २॥
तपस्विनं जितामित्रं ब्रह्मण्यं ब्राह्मणप्रियम् ।
तपोवनगतं सौम्यं सन्ध्योपासनतत्परम् ॥ ३॥
ब्रह्मविद्भिर्महाभागैर्ब्राह्मणैश्च समावृतम् ।
सर्वभूतसमं शान्तं सत्यसन्धं गतक्लमम् ॥ ४॥
गुणज्ञं सर्वभूतेषु परार्थैकप्रयोजनम् ।
ब्रुवन्तं परमात्मानमृषीणामुग्रतेजसाम् ॥ ५॥
तमेवं गुणसम्पन्नं नारीणामुत्तमा वधूः ।
मैत्रेयी च महाभागा गार्गी च ब्रह्मविद्वरा ॥ ६॥
सभामध्यगता चेयमृषीणामुग्रतेजसाम् ।
प्रणम्य दण्डवद्भूमौ गार्ग्येतद्वाक्यमब्रवीत् ॥ ७॥
